The aviation industry in Malta reached a significant milestone with the registration of the first-ever Boeing 777-300 converted freighter, also known as the “Big Twin.” The aircraft, registered by Challenge Group, marks a leap forward in Malta’s role as a growing hub for global aviation.

Prime Minister Robert Abela announced the achievement during a press conference at Challenge Group’s SkyParks offices, emphasizing that the number of registered aircraft in Malta has doubled over the past five years, reaching 920.

Adding to its fleet of three 767 Freighter aircraft, Challenge Group’s new addition is a testament to the company’s commitment to innovation and excellence. CEO Yossi Shoukroun highlighted the aircraft’s unmatched capabilities to meet rising global trade demands and further establish Malta as a strategic aviation base.

Transport Minister Chris Bonett expressed pride in Malta’s standing as a vital hub for aviation, crediting the English-speaking workforce and economic stability for the sector’s growth.

Abela also addressed Malta’s broader strategies, including the Malta Vision 2050 initiative, focusing on digital and green transitions. He underscored the importance of reskilling and upskilling local talent to align with the country’s goals of fostering a highly skilled workforce.

Challenge Group, employing approximately 140 workers locally, continues to play a pivotal role in Malta’s aviation growth.
