Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia’s bold new airline, is setting its sights on a revolutionary first class product as it plans its next phase of fleet expansion. While its incoming Boeing 787 Dreamliners won’t feature first class, the airline plans to introduce a premium experience onboard either the Airbus A350-1000 or Boeing 777X — both under evaluation as the next addition to the fleet.
CEO Tony Douglas confirmed the airline is in the process of selecting up to 50 widebody aircraft, hinting strongly at the inclusion of a “game-changing” first class suite in its future fleet. “We’ve thought long and hard about first class,” Douglas shared during a media session, adding that the chosen aircraft will feature a product that redefines luxury in the skies.
This ambition aligns Riyadh Air with elite airlines like Emirates, Singapore Airlines, and Qatar Airways, which continue to invest in ultra-luxurious cabin offerings despite the global trend toward upscale business class. Other major carriers like Lufthansa, Air France, and Japan Airlines are also reviving or upgrading their first class cabins.
While the Dreamliner fleet will debut without first class, it will offer a top-tier ‘Business Elite’ cabin — a single row of spacious suites with companion dining, expanded screens, and a lie-flat double bed. According to Douglas, the level of service and comfort will match or even exceed the standards of traditional first class.
Set to launch at the end of this year, Riyadh Air is determined to position Saudi Arabia as a major global aviation hub, backed by next-generation aircraft and world-class passenger experience.
