United Airlines Boeing 777 Flight Diverted to Denver Due to Engine Issue
In a recent incident, United Airlines Flight 990, scheduled from San Francisco International Airport to Paris, faced an unexpected diversion to Denver. The diversion occurred on Thursday evening after the flight crew reported an issue with one of the aircraft’s engines. United Airlines confirmed the incident, stating that while emergency services were on standby, the flight landed safely without requiring their assistance. Passengers disembarked normally, and the flight was subsequently canceled.
This event comes shortly after another United Airlines flight, bound for Osaka, Japan, encountered engine problems while taxiing at SFO last week. Despite being unrelated, both incidents involved Boeing 777 aircraft departing from SFO for international destinations.
Following these occurrences, United Airlines is arranging alternate flight options for the 273 passengers affected by Flight 990’s diversion.
In the wake of safety concerns surrounding Boeing aircraft, particularly the 737 Max series, Dave Calhoun, the CEO of Boeing, announced his intention to step down by the end of 2024. Calhoun’s decision follows increased scrutiny following a mid-air panel blowout incident involving an Alaska Airlines 737 Max in January. As investigations continue into these incidents, United Airlines declined to comment on any plans for further investigations regarding the occurrences at SFO.
