European Airlines Launch 50 New Transatlantic Routes

A wave of new transatlantic routes connecting Europe and North America is set to debut in the coming weeks, with major carriers such as Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), Air France, Lufthansa, and Condor leading the charge.

Among the notable additions is SAS’s new route linking Copenhagen, Denmark, to Atlanta, USA, starting June 17. This expansion marks SAS’s ninth destination in North America and comes as the airline prepares to transition from Star Alliance to SkyTeam. Flights will operate daily during the summer, utilizing Airbus A330-300 aircraft before reducing to 5X-weekly in the winter onboard A350-900s.

Air France is also expanding its transatlantic network with the launch of nonstop flights between Paris and Phoenix, USA, starting May 23. This route, served three times per week during the summer season with Boeing 787-9s, represents the first direct connection between France and Phoenix and is expected to provide a significant economic boost to the Arizona city.

German carriers Lufthansa and Condor are introducing new U.S. routes from Frankfurt, with Lufthansa offering nonstops to Minneapolis-Saint Paul and Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, and Condor launching operations to San Antonio. Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines is set to inaugurate flights from Minneapolis-Saint Paul to Dublin and New York John F. Kennedy to Naples, Italy.

American Airlines is expanding its European service with routes from Philadelphia International Airport to Naples, France, and Copenhagen. JetBlue continues its transatlantic expansion with seasonal flights from New York JFK to Edinburgh Airport, Scotland, while Norse Atlantic Airways plans to introduce a CDG-Los Angeles route and operations from Athens to JFK.

United Airlines is also joining the fray with flights to Athens from Chicago O’Hare. Additionally, Air Canada will operate seasonal routes to Stockholm Arlanda Airport from Montréal and Toronto Pearson, and WestJet will introduce routes from St Johns to London Gatwick and Halifax Stanfield to Edinburgh.

These new routes signify a growing demand for transatlantic travel and demonstrate airlines’ commitment to expanding their networks despite ongoing challenges in the aviation industry. As borders reopen and travel restrictions ease, passengers can look forward to more options for exploring destinations across Europe and North America.
