Etihad Wins Third Environmental Airline Award

Etihad Airways has once again proven its commitment to sustainability, winning the AirlineRatings.com Environmental Airline of the Year award for the third year in a row. Recognized for its innovative eco-friendly initiatives, Etihad is setting the benchmark for the industry.

Etihad Airways has been recognized as the AirlineRatings.com Environmental Airline of the Year for 2023, marking the third consecutive year it has received this prestigious accolade. Additionally, Etihad has been ranked 8th among the Top Twenty airlines by the rating agency.

Geoffrey Thomas, Editor-in-Chief of AirlineRatings.com, highlighted Etihad’s commitment to sustainability through its innovative Greenliner Boeing 787 program and the Sustainability50, A350 aircraft initiatives introduced in 2022. Thomas praised the airline’s comprehensive efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, emphasizing the company-wide dedication to emission reduction.

The airline’s latest Sustainability Report for 2021-2022 underscores Etihad’s proactive approach in achieving a 20% reduction in emissions intensity by 2025, halving 2019 net emissions by 2035, and reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. This report is considered a benchmark in the industry for sustainable aviation advancements.

Etihad Airways’ notable eco-friendly accomplishments include launching a comprehensive industry-wide testing and innovation program, becoming the first airline to secure commercial financing based on verified compliance with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and partnering with Boeing, Safran, and NASA for specialized testing to reduce CO2 emissions and noise.

Etihad Airways has achieved significant eco-friendly milestones. The airline launched an industry-wide testing and innovation program and became the first to secure commercial financing aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Additional initiatives include operational efficiencies like the Jeppesen Flite Deck Advisor, SATAVIA contrail avoidance, GE Engine Foam Wash, and lightweight Unit Load Devices. The airline also launched the Etihad Mangroves Forest project to establish carbon-absorbing forests globally and became the official airline sponsor of the BGCI Global Biodiversity Standard.

Etihad’s commitment extends beyond technological innovation by supporting small companies pioneering environmental breakthroughs and sharing acquired knowledge, further solidifying its leadership in sustainable aviation.
