Cathay and Singapore Airlines Partner for Sustainable Aviation

Cathay and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have committed to a groundbreaking partnership to advance sustainability in aviation. The airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on various initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and sharing best practices for environmental performance.

The MoU, signed by Cathay Group CEO Ronald Lam and SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong at the IATA Annual General Meeting in Dubai, focuses on two key areas: advocating for the use of SAF in the Asia-Pacific region and exchanging best practices to enhance sustainability in operations.

The first initiative involves increasing public awareness about SAF’s role in reducing aviation carbon emissions, advocating for supportive policies, and promoting a global framework for emission transparency. The airlines will also explore joint procurement opportunities for SAF to boost its production and adoption.

The second focus area is reducing single-use plastics, minimizing waste, and improving energy efficiency in ground and cargo operations. By sharing best practices, Cathay and SIA aim to accelerate the implementation of sustainable solutions across their operations.

Cathay Group CEO Ronald Lam emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving sustainable aviation goals, noting Cathay’s commitment to 10% SAF usage by 2030.
