Biman Flight Makes Safe Emergency Landing in Dhaka

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Chattogram to Abu Dhabi made an emergency landing at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early today after a crack appeared in its windshield mid-flight.
Flight BG-127, a Boeing 737-800 carrying 146 passengers, safely touched down at 1:20 am. To ensure passenger safety, the plane circled over Narsingdi for three hours to burn off fuel and reduce its weight, allowing for a safe landing.
Boshra Islam, head of public relations at Biman Bangladesh Airlines, confirmed there was no immediate danger. “Nothing serious. The plane had to burn fuel, which is why it remained in the sky for an extended period. The altitude at which the plane flew was safe,” she said.
The decision to circle and burn off fuel was made to reduce the plane’s landing weight, which minimizes stress on the aircraft’s landing gear and ensures a safer landing procedure. Such measures are standard protocol in the aviation industry during emergencies.
The emergency landing was handled smoothly, with emergency response teams at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport ready to assist if needed. Passengers remained calm throughout the ordeal, following the crew’s instructions.
After the emergency procedures, the flight departed from Dhaka at 3:05 am and arrived at Abu Dhabi International Airport at 5:40 am local time. Passengers were relieved to reach their destination safely despite the unexpected delay.
