After a three-month hiatus and extensive restructuring, Vietnam Airlines has relaunched its Pacific Airlines unit as a full-service carrier. Resuming operations with three Airbus A321 aircraft, Pacific Airlines is back in the skies on domestic routes.

The relaunch signifies a shift from its previous low-cost model to a full-service airline. Vietnam Airlines has reported that two of Pacific’s A321s feature 203 seats, with 195 in economy and eight in business class, while the third A321 has 184 seats, with 168 in economy and 16 in business class. These aircraft are believed to be sourced from Vietnam Airlines’ existing fleet.

A significant change accompanying the relaunch is the inclusion of both business and economy class services, with meals and baggage standards incorporated into the ticket price, mirroring Vietnam Airlines’ offerings. Additionally, passengers on Pacific Airlines will now enjoy inflight entertainment and accrue mileage on Vietnam Airlines’ frequent flyer program.

Pacific Airlines, which is 98% owned by Vietnam Airlines, previously operated under the Jetstar brand before Australia’s Jetstar Group exited in 2020. The financial struggles that led to its operational suspension in March have now been addressed through the recent restructuring, paving the way for its new business model.

Following the relaunch, Pacific Airlines aims to elevate the passenger experience with an array of new amenities and services. The transition to a full-service carrier means that passengers will now enjoy complimentary meals and baggage allowance included in their ticket price. This strategic shift is designed to attract a broader customer base, including business travelers who value additional comforts and conveniences during their flights.

Moreover, the inclusion of inflight entertainment and the ability to earn mileage on Vietnam Airlines’ frequent flyer program further enhance the appeal of Pacific Airlines’ new offering. This move aligns with Vietnam Airlines’ overall strategy to strengthen its market position and improve customer loyalty. By offering a seamless and more luxurious travel experience, Pacific Airlines is set to compete more effectively in the domestic market, ensuring its long-term sustainability and success.
