Joseph Azzopardi Appointed New CFO of KM Malta Airlines

Joseph Azzopardi has been named the new CFO of KM Malta Airlines, bringing extensive aviation industry experience to oversee the airline’s financial operations.

KM Malta Airlines has announced the appointment of Joseph Azzopardi as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Azzopardi will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the airline, including financial planning and analysis, financial and sustainability reporting, and treasury functions. His extensive experience in the aviation industry positions him well to steer the financial strategy of the newly established airline.

Azzopardi brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles in major aviation companies. At Ryanair Group, he served as Head of Finance and Group Simulator Operations Accountable Manager, where he played a crucial role in setting up Ryanair’s operations in Malta. His responsibilities included managing air operator certificates (AOCs), aircraft and simulator acquisition and leasing, insurance, hangar operations, and overseeing safety and compliance across the group’s four simulator training bases in Europe.

Before his tenure at Ryanair, Azzopardi gained significant experience at Lufthansa and Air Malta. At Lufthansa, he spent over two years as a Management Accountant within the Fleet Planning and Management department. He also worked for more than two years as a Management Accountant in the Financial Control Team at Air Malta, further solidifying his expertise in the aviation sector.

Azzopardi holds a Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons) and is a certified accountant by profession. His academic background and professional qualifications provide a strong foundation for his role as CFO at KM Malta Airlines. His appointment comes at a critical juncture for the airline, which aims to establish itself as a leading carrier in the region.

KM Malta Airlines was launched on March 31, 2024, a day after the previous flag carrier, Air Malta, was closed. The airline currently operates flights to 17 airports across 15 key European cities. The leadership team believes that Azzopardi’s appointment will bring valuable financial oversight and strategic planning capabilities to the organization, supporting its growth and operational efficiency.

In his new role, Azzopardi will focus on ensuring financial stability and driving the airline’s financial performance. His strategic vision and industry expertise are expected to contribute significantly to the airline’s long-term success.
