Maersk Air Cargo Welcomes First Boeing 777 Freighter

Maersk Air Cargo has officially received its first Boeing 777 freighter, set to enhance cargo capacity on its Europe-China route. The freighter, handed over in Seattle, will arrive in Billund, Denmark, and will be followed by a second 777 later this quarter.

Maersk Air Cargo, a subsidiary of A.P. Moller-Maersk, has taken delivery of its first Boeing 777 freighter. The new aircraft will soon operate on the Europe-China route, increasing capacity for businesses facing tight market conditions. The addition of the 777 freighter promises enhanced efficiency with its larger cargo hold and fuel-efficient GE90 engines.

The first 777 freighter arrived in Billund, Denmark, after a handover ceremony in Seattle. Maersk plans to deploy the aircraft between Billund and Hangzhou, China, a route currently served by Boeing 767s. The 777 will initially operate three weekly flights, ramping up to six when the second freighter arrives. Both planes are expected to be operational for the upcoming peak shipping season.

Maersk Air Cargo’s fleet now includes 20 Boeing 767s and the new 777 freighters. The larger 777s are expected to double the payload capacity compared to the 767s, significantly enhancing Maersk’s ability to meet growing demand in the cargo aviation sector.
