A flight cancellation due to crew behavior is rare, but that’s exactly what happened on an Air Canada flight from Casablanca to Montreal on Friday. The incident began when a passenger requested a blanket to combat the pre-takeoff chill on the A330. The request led to a heated exchange with the flight’s purser, who was caught on video yelling in French and accusing the passenger of bullying.

As the situation escalated, the plane, which was already taxiing, returned to the gate to remove the passenger. However, many other passengers, disturbed by the purser’s conduct, also demanded to disembark. This led to the flight being canceled and rescheduled for Saturday with a new crew. Air Canada has issued an apology and stated that the incident is under review, promising to take appropriate action to prevent future occurrences.

The trouble began as the Air Canada flight was taxiing on the runway, with passengers settling in for their journey from Casablanca to Montreal. A request for a blanket by one passenger to ward off the pre-takeoff chill set off a chain of events that quickly spiraled out of control. The purser, responsible for maintaining order and ensuring passenger comfort, instead became the center of a heated confrontation. Passengers reported that the purser’s response to the request was excessively harsh, escalating into shouting and accusations of bullying, which were captured on video.

As the exchange grew more intense, the decision was made to return the aircraft to the gate to remove the initial passenger involved in the dispute. However, the purser’s behavior had already unnerved many onboard. A significant number of passengers expressed their desire to disembark, citing concerns over the purser’s conduct and the overall safety and comfort of the flight. This mass demand to leave the plane left Air Canada with no choice but to cancel the flight altogether. The flight was rescheduled for the next day with a different crew, ensuring a fresh start for the delayed journey.

Air Canada responded swiftly to the incident, issuing a public apology and assuring customers that the matter is being thoroughly reviewed. “We are taking this incident very seriously,” the airline stated. “It is under review, and we will take appropriate action. We apologize to our customers and deeply regret that their experience today fell far short of what they have come to expect when flying with Air Canada.” The airline’s prompt acknowledgment and commitment to addressing the issue aim to restore passenger confidence and uphold their reputation for customer service.
