Muscat International Airport has introduced a new rule to improve boarding efficiency for passengers traveling to or through Oman. Effective August 4, 2024, passengers must now pass through the Boarding Pass System (PBS) area—located after check-in and before passport control—at least 40 minutes before their flight’s scheduled departure. The change aims to streamline the boarding process and ensure timely departures.

The airport’s departure gates will continue to close 20 minutes before departure, as previously practiced. The new timing adjustment is designed to provide passengers with sufficient time to complete passport control and security checks smoothly. Oman Air, the national carrier, also issued a notice to inform travelers, stating that its check-in procedures remain unchanged, closing 60 minutes before departure.

Passengers are urged to adhere to the updated guidelines to ensure a hassle-free travel experience.

While the PBS checkpoint now requires earlier clearance, the departure gates will continue to close 20 minutes before departure, maintaining the same protocol as before. This consistent timing allows passengers to navigate security checks and passport control without unnecessary delays, ensuring they reach their gates on time. Muscat Airport’s new rule emphasizes the importance of punctuality for a smoother, more efficient journey.

In response to Muscat Airport’s updated guidelines, Oman Air has reiterated that its check-in procedures will remain unchanged, closing 60 minutes before departure. The airline has issued a notice advising passengers to comply with the new boarding checkpoint rules to avoid any disruptions to their travel plans. This alignment between the airport and the national airline is part of a broader effort to enhance operational efficiency and passenger satisfaction.
