Serbia and Uganda Launch Direct Flights with New Air Agreement

Serbia and Uganda signed a Bilateral Air Service Agreement enabling direct flights and a codeshare partnership between Uganda Airlines and Air Serbia, aiming to strengthen trade and socio-cultural ties.

Serbia and Uganda have strengthened their partnership with a Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA), setting the stage for nonstop flights and enhanced connectivity between the two nations. The agreement, which allows direct flights and a codeshare deal between Uganda Airlines and Air Serbia, was signed in Niš by Tumusiime Aggrey, Senior Air Transport Officer of Uganda’s Ministry for Transport, and Mirjana Čizmarov, Director General of Serbia’s Civil Aviation Directorate.

“This Bilateral Air Service Agreement will boost connectivity, trade, and socio-cultural ties between Uganda and Serbia,” Mr. Aggrey noted, emphasizing Uganda’s recent success in aviation security audits by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Uganda Airlines has previously announced plans to launch direct flights between Entebbe and Belgrade, a move that will further improve links between East Africa and Eastern Europe.

This agreement also follows a previous arrangement with Niš Constantine the Great Airport, providing Ugandan exporters with over 750 square meters of storage, including cold storage, for goods shipped to Serbia and surrounding regions, including Greece, Albania, and Bulgaria. The new routes and facilities mark an important step toward deeper economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. Serbian construction firms have also secured several projects in Uganda since relations began expanding last summer, demonstrating broader commercial growth.

The next session of the Joint Trade Commission between Serbia and Uganda is set to convene in Kampala in February 2025, where further collaborations will be explored.
