Jeju Air B737-800 Diverts to Seoul After Emergency
A Jeju Air flight from Jeju to Beijing declared an emergency over the Yellow Sea and safely diverted to Seoul. The reason for the emergency is under investigation.
A Jeju Air Boeing 737-800, operating flight 7C8135 from Jeju to Beijing, declared an emergency mid-flight and diverted to Seoul earlier today.
The flight, which departed Jeju International Airport (CJU) on schedule at 11:51 local time on December 27, was bound for Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX). The aircraft reached cruising altitude at FL320 before the emergency occurred over the Yellow Sea.
At 04:13 UTC, the crew squawked the emergency transponder code 7700 during a descent through FL180, heading to Incheon International Airport (ICN). The exact cause of the emergency remains unknown.
The aircraft, registered HL8088, is a 15.4-year-old Boeing 737-800 that has been in Jeju Air’s fleet since February 2017. Before joining Jeju Air, the plane served Ryanair following its delivery in 2009.
