Japan Airlines (JAL) marked the end of an era as it retired its Boeing 777-300ER from the Tokyo Haneda (HND) to London Heathrow (LHR) route. The final flight, JL43, departed Haneda on January 1, 2025, at 10:01 AM and landed in London at 2:56 PM local time, capping a 14-hour and 25-minute journey.

The Boeing 777-300ER joined JAL’s fleet in 2004, replacing the Boeing 747-400. For over two decades, the aircraft served as a cornerstone of the airline’s long-haul network, connecting major cities like New York, London, and Sydney. The iconic aircraft’s last flight featured the airline’s “W84” cabin configuration, accommodating 244 passengers across four classes.

While the 777-300ER will continue to operate on select routes, including Chicago, Paris, and Sydney, its gradual replacement by the Airbus A350-1000 signals JAL’s move toward next-generation aircraft.

The Airbus A350-1000, introduced in January 2024, brings a refreshed cabin design with enhanced passenger comfort, fuel efficiency, and reduced noise levels. With a capacity of 239 passengers in a four-class layout, it emphasizes spaciousness and luxury, featuring flat-bed seats in Business Class, advanced entertainment systems, and eco-friendly operations.

By 2025, JAL plans to operate 11 A350-1000s, with the aircraft already serving routes like Haneda-New York, Dallas-Fort Worth, and London. This fleet renewal aligns with JAL’s commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.
