Riyadh Air’s 2025 Takeoff Adjusted Amid 787 Delays
Riyadh Air pushes its operational launch to Q3 2025 due to Dreamliner delivery delays. Preparations continue with crew recruitment, certification milestones, and fleet expansion plans.
Riyadh Air, the ambitious new carrier from Saudi Arabia, has adjusted its operational launch timeline to the third quarter of 2025, citing delays in the delivery of its inaugural Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Originally slated for mid-2025, the shift underscores challenges in the global aviation supply chain.
The airline’s first Dreamliner is now in the final assembly phase at Boeing’s facilities. Supply chain constraints have played a significant role in the adjusted timeline. Riyadh Air plans to launch operations shortly after receiving its first aircraft.
As part of its preparations, the airline has recruited over 60 pilots and cabin crew and expects to secure its air operator certificate (AOC) from Saudi aviation regulators in the coming weeks. The carrier is also on track to reveal its aircraft interiors and service offerings in the near future, aiming to establish a unique identity in the competitive aviation market.
Recently, Riyadh Air unveiled “Jamila,” a leased Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which serves as a technical spare and training platform. This aircraft, featuring a premium interim cabin design, will support certification processes and initial training requirements before transitioning to backup operations.
Looking ahead, Riyadh Air plans to expand its fleet significantly, including additional widebody aircraft capable of accommodating over 300 passengers. The airline’s confirmed order of 72 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners highlights its strategic intent to compete on a global scale.
Stay tuned for updates on Riyadh Air’s developments as it prepares to transform the aviation landscape in Saudi Arabia and beyond.
