Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, affectionately known as Asia’s largest tulip garden, is gearing up to welcome visitors this coming weekend. Situated between the tranquil waters of Dal Lake and the majestic Zabarwan Hills, this stunning garden, formerly named Siraj Bagh, has become an iconic destination in the region. Officials from the floriculture department have announced the garden’s opening to the public on Saturday, just in time for the tulip blooming season, boasting a vibrant array of hues.

This year’s tulip display introduces five new varieties, complementing the existing collection of 68 varieties. Additionally, the department has expanded the garden’s tulip collection by adding an extra two lakh bulbs, bringing the total to a staggering 17 lakh bulbs spread across 55 hectares of land.
In addition to the captivating tulips, visitors can delight in a diverse array of spring flowers such as hyacinths, daffodils, muscari, and cyclamens, enhancing both the visual and sensory experience.
With well-maintained pathways, breathtaking views, and a plethora of vibrant tulip varieties, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden promises an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and tourists alike.
Established in 2007, the garden marked a significant milestone in Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism landscape, initiated by the visionary efforts of then Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. Designed to extend the tourism season beyond conventional summer and winter months, the garden showcases the beauty of spring blooms amidst the region’s natural splendor, attracting tourists year-round and promoting Jammu and Kashmir’s cultural and natural heritage.
Last year, the garden welcomed over 3.65 lakh visitors, including domestic and foreign tourists, while in 2022, it saw 3.6 lakh visitors. Renowned for its scenic beauty, the garden has also become a preferred filming location, with numerous film crews choosing it as a backdrop for their projects.
To accommodate the growing number of visitors, there has been a significant expansion of parking facilities, providing an additional 22,000 square feet of space. This expansion aims to ensure smoother access to the garden for visitors, eliminating concerns about parking availability.
