In a strategic move to boost global maintenance capabilities, Turkish Technic, the maintenance, repair, and overhaul subsidiary of Turkish Airlines, has partnered with Rolls-Royce to establish a major engine maintenance facility at Istanbul Airport.

The new facility will specialize in the maintenance of Rolls-Royce‘s Trent XWB-97, Trent XWB-84, and Trent 7000 engines, widely used in Airbus A350 and A330neo aircraft. Scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2027, the center is poised to become one of the largest in the world.

Ahmet Bolat, Chairperson of Turkish Technic, highlighted the impact of the project: “This initiative will elevate us to the third-largest MRO company globally. We’re making a $300 million investment and creating a facility capable of servicing 200 engines annually by 2036.”

Aimed at supporting both Turkish Airlines’ expanding fleet and international carriers, the site will also handle around 70 of Turkish Airlines’ own engines each year. With an estimated annual revenue of $1.5 billion, the project is expected to contribute $700 million annually in exports, boosting Türkiye’s economy.

Importantly, 20% of the engine parts will be repaired domestically, enhancing the country’s technical capabilities and reducing reliance on foreign parts.

Rolls-Royce emphasized that the collaboration is a vital part of its effort to expand global MRO capacity and deepen its commitment to Türkiye through industrial initiatives and long-term partnerships.

Currently, Turkish Technic operates five facilities serving international and domestic clients with a wide range of aircraft maintenance and engineering services. This move complements Turkish Airlines’ recent massive order of Airbus A350 aircraft, making it the largest operator of Trent XWB engines globally.
