Turkey to Fine Passengers Who Stand Up Too Soon After Landing

Turkey’s aviation authority introduces a new rule fining passengers £60 for standing before the plane reaches its parking position, aiming to improve onboard safety and disembarkation order.

Airline passengers standing before aircraft has parked

Holidaymakers heading to Turkey are being warned about a new aviation rule that could catch them off guard — standing up too soon after landing may now cost you a fine of £60.

Many passengers are known to leap from their seats as soon as the aircraft touches down, often unbuckling their seatbelts and reaching for overhead luggage to be the first to exit. However, Turkey’s Civil Aviation Authority has introduced stricter rules to curb this behavior, emphasizing safety and order during disembarkation.

The regulation mandates that passengers remain seated, even after the seatbelt sign has been turned off, and wait their turn until the aircraft is fully parked and it is time to exit. The move aims to reduce interference with cabin crew instructions and enhance onboard safety.

Officials state that airline staff must clearly inform passengers to stay seated until the aircraft reaches its parking position. Any violations will be reported to the aviation authority and could result in an immediate fine.

This change is likely to impact the many British tourists visiting Turkey, which has overtaken Spain as their top holiday destination. The nation continues to attract visitors with its scenic coastlines, affordable medical tourism, and extensive flight connectivity — Turkish Airlines now flies to over 320 destinations globally.

While some travelers argue they stand early to stretch or grab bags quickly, others find it inconsiderate as it blocks aisles and slows down the exit process. Turkey’s new regulation hopes to put an end to this divisive habit.
