Luc Tytgat, Acting Executive Director of EASA

Luc Tytgat, assuming the mantle of Acting Executive Director at the European Union Aviation Safety Agency in September 2023, embodies a steadfast commitment to the Agency’s mission. With a seasoned hand, Tytgat orchestrates the Agency’s endeavors, ensuring unwavering dedication to safety and fostering robust relationships with stakeholders and the EASA Management Board.

His journey at EASA commenced in January 2015 when he assumed the mantle of Strategy and Safety Management Director. Through astute leadership, Tytgat elevated safety intelligence and sculpted a more adaptable regulatory landscape. Steering the Agency through pivotal challenges, he championed initiatives addressing pressing concerns such as climate change mitigation, cybersecurity, and emerging safety risks. Under his stewardship, EASA’s research and innovation endeavors burgeoned, echoing his visionary guidance.

Tytgat’s illustrious career traces back to his tenure as the Director of the Pan-European Single Sky Directorate at Eurocontrol from 2011. Prior to that, he amassed two decades of experience in air transport and space affairs at the European Commission, complemented by a decade of service in the Belgian Air Force.

A graduate of the Belgian Military Academy with a specialization in Aeronautics Engineering, Tytgat’s academic prowess extends to a Master’s in Public Management from the esteemed Solvay Business School in Brussels.
