Expansion of FedEx Facilities at Shenzhen Airport
FedEx Express has taken significant strides in enhancing its operations at the Shenzhen Baoan International Airport in China. The recently renovated and expanded import warehouse underscores FedEx’s commitment to improving efficiency and customer experience in Southern China.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology including an advanced intelligent management system and an additional sort belt, the import warehouse now boasts enhanced capabilities. The expansion, increasing the facility’s footprint by 48% to over 4,500 sq m, has effectively doubled sorting capacity and boosted freight handling capacity by 50%, according to FedEx.
Robert Chu, Vice President of Operations at FedEx China, emphasized the strategic importance of Shenzhen in their development plans. He highlighted the pivotal role the expanded gateway will play in streamlining customs clearance processes, particularly benefiting the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and other regions.
Notably, the Shenzhen facility stands as one of four major FedEx international gateways in China. Its responsibilities span import and export operations for multiple cities in South China and parts of southwestern China.
This year marks FedEx’s 40th anniversary of operations in China, a journey that began with pioneering cargo flights at Shenzhen Baoan International Airport. Today, FedEx operates 10 international flights per week from Shenzhen, facilitating seamless connections between Asian and American markets.
In July last year, FedEx further elevated its services by upgrading export capabilities for high-value shipments in South China. This initiative notably reduced transit times for Category D shipments to the Americas via the Shenzhen Gateway, benefitting regional customers.
Looking ahead, FedEx remains committed to enhancing its facilities in Shenzhen. The company plans to leverage new technologies to bolster operational efficiency and continue reducing customs clearance times, ensuring a smoother experience for customers.
