Boom’s Breakthrough: The Revival of Supersonic Travel on the Horizon
Aviation pioneer Boom Supersonic has reached a significant milestone in its quest to reintroduce commercial supersonic air travel, as its prototype aircraft, the XB-1, took flight over the Mojave Desert this week. The XB-1’s inaugural flight, occurring at 7:28AM PT on Thursday, saw the aircraft soar to a maximum altitude of 7,120 feet, reaching a top speed of 246 knots (283 mph) before touching down just 12 minutes later. This marks a crucial step forward for Boom’s overarching mission to launch Overture, the world’s first supersonic commercial airliner since the retirement of the Concorde two decades ago.
