Biman Bangladesh Airlines Restarts Rome Flights After Nine-Year Pause, Meeting Increased Demand
Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the national carrier of Bangladesh, is preparing to resume direct flights to Rome, Italy after a hiatus of nine years, responding to the growing demand from the Bangladeshi community residing in Italy.
In a ceremony held at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Faruk Khan, alongside Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro, inaugurated the anticipated flight. The event was attended by officials and dignitaries, emphasizing the significance of this renewed connection between the two countries.
“We are pleased to announce the reinstatement of our Dhaka-Rome-Dhaka route,” stated Biman’s Managing Director and CEO, Shafiul Azim. “Our market analysis suggests promising potential for this route, similar to our successful operations in London, Toronto, and Narita.”
The revival of the Dhaka-Rome route not only signifies Biman’s strategic expansion but also reflects the government’s commitment to serving the needs of Bangladeshi citizens worldwide. “This initiative aligns with the vision of Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to improve connectivity for our citizens living abroad,” Azim added.
The decision to reintroduce the Rome flight follows thorough evaluation, considering both commercial viability and the increasing demand for travel to Italy. Azim noted a significant surge in visa applications to Italy following the announcement, indicating heightened interest among travelers.
Furthermore, Biman aims to optimize its routes by using Rome as a potential stopover for its Dhaka-Toronto-Dhaka flight, a move that could streamline operations and enhance efficiency.
The flight schedule, designed to accommodate passenger convenience, will feature departures from Dhaka every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday during the summer season. This strategic timing aims to cater to the diverse travel needs of passengers while ensuring seamless connectivity between the two capitals.
Biman’s return to the Rome route marks a significant milestone in its history, reaffirming its commitment to providing reliable air travel options for passengers worldwide. As the airline embarks on this journey, it remains focused on delivering exceptional service and fostering stronger ties between Bangladesh and Italy.
