Saudi Arabia Achieves Sky-High Milestone: Record Air Traffic Soars Beyond Pre-Pandemic Levels

Dubai: The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has unveiled remarkable statistics showcasing Saudi Arabia’s aviation landscape in 2023, marking a significant surge beyond pre-pandemic benchmarks.

In a noteworthy development, Saudi Arabia witnessed a robust 16 percent increase in total flight numbers, soaring from 701,290 to an impressive 814,995 flights. Alongside, the number of passengers also soared, surging from 88 million to an astounding 112 million.

The Kingdom’s air connectivity showcased remarkable expansion, spreading its wings to 148 destinations and facilitating 52 weekly flights to and from its realm.

Leading this aviation revolution were low-cost carriers, spearheading a substantial portion of the passenger traffic surge. Their dominance in the domestic market escalated from 27 percent to a commanding 44 percent, signaling a shift in traveler preferences and intensifying competition within the industry.

Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, President of GACA, expressed pride in these extraordinary figures, attributing them to the strategic foresight embedded in Saudi Arabia’s Aviation Strategy. He emphasized the Kingdom’s ascendance as a frontrunner in the Middle Eastern aviation landscape, fostering unparalleled connectivity with the rest of the world and achieving record-breaking double-digit growth in both flight operations and passenger numbers throughout 2023.
