Collaboration for Nepal’s Tourism: USAID and Nepal Tourism Board Unveil 2024 Campaign
Kathmandu, April 1 – Today marks the launch of the 2024 International Tourism Campaign in Kathmandu, a collaborative effort between USAID, the Nepal Tourism Board, and the renowned travel storytelling platform, Steller. This initiative aims to spotlight Nepal’s rich heritage, cultural diversity, and abundant tourism opportunities to a global audience. Building upon the success of the 2023 campaign, which reached over 16.3 million travelers and generated $15.8 million in earned media value, the 2024 campaign enters its second phase.
International content creators from Steller will play a key role in capturing Nepal’s essence through captivating videos and photos, showcasing key destinations such as Kathmandu, Pokhara, Bardiya, and Illam. With an anticipated reach of over 20 million viewers, this initiative seeks to stimulate tourism arrivals and establish Nepal as a premier tourist destination.
At the launch event, U.S. Ambassador to Nepal, Dean Thompson, highlighted Nepal’s immense potential as a top-tier travel destination, citing its diverse landscapes, rich biodiversity, and vibrant cultures. Expressing USAID’s unwavering support for Nepal’s tourism sector, Ambassador Thompson emphasized tourism’s pivotal role in driving inclusive, sustainable economic growth.
Echoing this sentiment, Nandini Lahe Thapa, Officiating CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board, celebrated Nepal’s remarkable tourism growth, with over 1 million international visitors in 2023. Thapa expressed confidence that the campaign will sustain this positive momentum by showcasing Nepal’s year-round tourism offerings and positioning the country as a preferred destination for global travelers.
The partnership between the Nepal Tourism Board, USAID, and Steller underscores a shared commitment to catalyzing growth in Nepal’s dynamic tourism industry. Together, they aim to attract investments that will further enhance the country’s tourism services and infrastructure, fostering continued growth and development.
