Former JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes Appointed As Airbus North America Lead
In a significant industry move, former JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes has been appointed as the new Chairman and CEO of Airbus Americas, where he will lead the manufacturer’s commercial aircraft business in North America. With over 10,000 Airbus employees spread across 50 sites in the region, Hayes will oversee operations and also assume responsibility for Airbus’ helicopter, space, and defense businesses throughout the Americas.
The transition comes as Jeffrey Knittel, the current Chairman and CEO of Airbus Americas, prepares for retirement in June 2024. Knittel will work closely with Hayes during a brief transition period to ensure a smooth handover of leadership.
Who is Robin Hayes?
Born in London in 1966, Hayes brings with him 35 years of extensive leadership experience in the aviation industry. His career trajectory includes senior roles at British Airways, notably as Executive Vice President for The Americas, before joining JetBlue in 2008. During his nine-year tenure as CEO at JetBlue, Hayes spearheaded significant transformations within the airline, including the introduction of transatlantic flights and the renowned Mint cabin experience.
Hayes’ influence extends beyond individual airlines, as evidenced by his tenure as Chair of IATA’s Board of Governors from 2020 to 2022. During this period, he played a key role in advancing sustainability initiatives within the aviation sector, including a commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
