Hermeus Unveils Details of Its First Supersonic Flight Vehicle
Hermeus, a hypersonic development start-up, has shared new insights into its forthcoming supersonic aircraft, which is set to take flight next year.
The Quarterhorse Mk 2 will be the second flight vehicle and third airframe in Hermeus’ Quarterhorse series. This marks the company’s initial effort to surpass the sound barrier.
On April 4th, the Atlanta-based company posted on social media, describing the Mk 2 as “the world’s first high-Mach autonomous aircraft.”
The experimental aircraft will sport a delta wing design, a variable air intake, and will be “approximately the size of a [Lockheed Martin] F-16,” according to Hermeus.
Interestingly, the Quarterhorse Mk 2 will utilize the same engine found in the legendary F-16 – the Pratt & Whitney F100.
