Joby Inks Deal for Air Taxi Network in Saudi
Joby Aviation, a leading electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxi manufacturer, collaborates with Mukamalah Aviation, a subsidiary of Saudi Aramco, to introduce its innovative technology in Saudi Arabia’s evolving aviation landscape
In a strategic move towards expanding its electric air taxi network, Joby Aviation has joined forces with Mukamalah Aviation, a subsidiary of Saudi Aramco, to introduce cutting-edge eVTOL aircraft to Saudi Arabia. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the two entities aims to leverage Joby’s advanced technology and Mukamalah’s extensive aviation infrastructure to revolutionize air transportation in the kingdom.
The collaboration marks a significant milestone for Joby Aviation, as it seeks to tap into Saudi Arabia’s burgeoning aviation market. With Mukamalah managing 13 airports and over 300 helipads across the country, the partnership positions Joby to establish a strong foothold in the region’s air mobility sector.
Under the agreement, Joby plans to deploy its flagship air taxis, capable of carrying up to four passengers at speeds of up to 200 mph, from vertiports strategically located at airports and hotels. The initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan, aimed at diversifying the economy and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.
The collaboration underscores the growing momentum of eVTOL technology in the Middle East, with Saudi Arabia and the neighboring UAE emerging as key players in the global urban air mobility landscape. With ambitious plans for sustainable aviation and economic diversification, both countries are poised to shape the future of air transportation in the region.
