Dhaka Airport’s long-awaited third terminal is 97% complete, with a second runway in planning
Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is on the verge of a major upgrade with its third terminal 97% complete, according to Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Muhammad Faruk Khan.
During an inspection of the ongoing construction on May 30, the minister announced that the 3rd terminal is set to open to the public by the end of this year or early next year. This development marks a significant milestone in enhancing the airport’s capacity and modernizing its facilities to better serve passengers.
Minister Khan also revealed that plans are in place to construct a second runway to boost the airport’s flight capacity. This addition is aimed at accommodating the increasing number of flights and improving overall efficiency at the airport, which is a key hub in the region.
However, he noted that the presence of buildings around the airport poses significant challenges to this development. These obstacles include navigating existing infrastructure and ensuring minimal disruption to the surrounding areas. Despite these hurdles, the government is committed to finding a viable solution for the new runway.
“We are trying to figure out how to construct a second runway,” Minister Khan added, emphasizing the importance of this project for the future growth of the airport. The completion of the third terminal and the potential addition of a second runway are expected to significantly enhance the airport’s operational capabilities and passenger experience.
