COMAC and Beihang University Launch Large Aircraft Research Institute

Beihang University and COMAC have launched the Large Aircraft Research Institute, a joint initiative to advance China’s aviation industry through strategic development, innovation, and talent cultivation.

Beihang University has officially inaugurated the Large Aircraft Research Institute in collaboration with the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd. (COMAC) at its Shahe campus. The signing and inauguration ceremony saw notable attendees, including COMAC’s Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Board, He Dongfeng, and other key figures from both COMAC and Beihang University.

During the ceremony, Zhao Changlu praised COMAC for supporting the university and its dedication to China’s strategic needs. He hoped the new institute would become a hub for large aircraft development, research, innovation, talent training, and testing facilities.

Zhao Changlu, Secretary of Beihang’s Party Committee, praised COMAC’s devotion to China’s strategic goals and its support for the university. He underlined their historic ties and collaborative groundwork, foreseeing the institute as a central hub for large aircraft research, innovation, talent development, and essential testing facilities.

He Dongfeng reciprocated the gratitude, acknowledging the crucial role Beihang University has played in the progress of large aircraft research. He emphasized the decade-long partnership in talent cultivation, model development, and technical enhancements, and expressed optimism for the future contributions of the institute to China’s aviation power.

Wang Yunpeng, President of Beihang University, welcomed the COMAC delegation and noted the collaborative achievements to date. He stressed the importance of continued cooperation to advance innovation, strengthen the aviation industry, and promote technological progress and talent development in China.

The ceremony also included the signing of the co-construction agreement by representatives from both COMAC and Beihang University, and the unveiling of the institute’s plaque. Academician Zhang Yanzhong was appointed as the Director of the Advisory Committee of the Institute.

Prior to the ceremony, the COMAC delegation toured several key laboratories at Beihang University, underscoring the strong research capabilities that will support the new institute’s mission.
