Flying Air Taxis Chicago and New York City are gearing up to introduce flying air taxis next year, aiming to ease airport commutes and bypass traffic. This initiative, led by United Airlines and startup Archer Aviation, features the eVTOL (“electric vertical takeoff and landing”) aircraft. Quieter and less polluting than traditional small aircraft, the eVTOL can carry four passengers at speeds of 150 miles per hour. The Federal Aviation Administration is currently reviewing the project for approval.

Driverless Railpods Dubai is developing an elevated transportation system featuring driverless railpods, in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Urban.Mass. These solar-powered pods can transport between 1,000 to 16,000 commuters daily, significantly reducing carbon emissions compared to gas-powered transportation.

Air-Powered Airplanes Scientists are working on alternative fuels for airplanes, including a “power to liquid” process that removes carbon dioxide from the air. This process separates carbon from oxygen and combines it with hydrogen, producing a cleaner fuel. Although the high cost is a current challenge, hydrogen-powered planes offer another promising solution to reduce aviation pollution.

Flying Electric Passenger Ships Candela Technology AB is revolutionizing water travel with its hydrofoil boat, which operates like a “magic carpet” by hovering above the water at high speeds. Powered by electricity, this boat avoids water contamination and significantly reduces commute times. The Candela P-12 shuttle, set to begin passenger service this year, can transport 30 commuters at a time.

Solar-Powered Cars Imagine a car that never needs gas or external charging. Solar-powered cars could make this a reality. While some companies have faced challenges in launching this technology, the market is expected to grow significantly by 2030. These cars would offer environmental benefits similar to electric vehicles but without the need to draw power from the grid, where much electricity is still generated from fossil fuels.
