Global Airlines Postpones Airbus A380 Maiden Flight to 2025
Global Airlines shifts Airbus A380 launch plans to 2025, citing ongoing maintenance and cabin retrofitment processes at Glasgow Prestwick Airport.
Global Airlines has pushed back the launch of its commercial operations to 2025, delaying the debut of its first Airbus A380. The aircraft, currently undergoing maintenance and interior refurbishment at Glasgow Prestwick Airport, was originally slated for a 2024 launch.
The airline initially announced the acquisition of its first Airbus A380 from Dorrick Aviation in May 2023, with plans for a spring or summer 2024 inaugural flight. Despite reassurances, recent updates from Global Airlines, including partnerships with Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, indicate a revised timeline aiming for passenger flights “next year.”
Meanwhile, the airline’s Airbus A380 registered as 9H-GLOBL continues its maintenance and cabin retrofit processes at PIK. With the next phase of maintenance set to begin soon, Global Airlines moves closer to its revised operational schedule.
According to ch-aviation data, Global Airlines has two Airbus A380 aircraft awaiting delivery: 9H-GLOBL and 9H-MIP. While 9H-MIP arrived at PIK via Montreal Mirabel International Airport in May 2023, 9H-MIP has not been active since December 2023 according to Flightradar24 records.
The arrival of 9H-GLOBL at PIK marked a significant milestone for Global Airlines, facilitated by collaborative efforts with Airbus, Mojave Air and Space Port, and Hi Fly, the Portuguese ACMI operator.
Financial filings from UK Companies House reveal insights into Global Airlines’ financial standing, including recent director appointments and ownership details. Holiday Swapping Limited holds over 75% of Global Airlines’ shares, with financial statements for 2022 indicating substantial current assets and strategic acquisitions, including the recent acquisition of 9H-GLOBL.
Global Airlines continues to navigate its fleet expansion plans, having announced agreements for the acquisition of four aircraft, including MSN 120, with further details expected in the coming months.
