Musk Urges US to Match UAE’s Cutting-Edge Airport Tech
Tesla CEO Elon Musk highlighted the advanced check-in technology at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport, suggesting the US should adopt similar innovations.
Tesla chief executive Elon Musk has called for the United States to catch up with the UAE’s advanced airport technology. Musk’s comment came in response to a video showing the seamless check-in process at Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi, which uses facial recognition technology.
Musk remarked on X, the social media platform he owns, responding to a TikTok clip that demonstrated the ease and efficiency of the airport’s check-in system. “The US does need to catch up,” he stated.
Zayed International Airport’s Terminal A, which began operations in November, gained initial global attention as a filming location for “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.” The terminal offers online check-in and self-service desks that utilize facial recognition to verify biometric details, perform visa checks, and confirm passenger data. This system allows some passengers to move from the terminal entrance to their gate in just 12 minutes.
The terminal aims to attract more airlines and boost the airport’s capacity from 45 million to 65 million passengers within the next decade, according to airport officials. Following the terminal’s opening, Abu Dhabi International Airport was renamed Zayed International Airport in February.
