The North Runway at Zayed International Airport is now under rehabilitation as part of the Building Better Airports campaign. Announced today, the project is being conducted under the guidance of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and will continue until it receives final approval for operational commencement.

This rehabilitation project aims to meet the increasing demands of air traffic, boost capacity, and enhance operational efficiency. In addition to runway improvements, Zayed International Airport offers a convenient storage facility for transit travelers. This service allows those on long-haul flights with stopovers in the UAE to explore the country without the hassle of carrying their luggage.

Zayed International Airport, formerly known as Abu Dhabi International Airport, was renamed on February 9 in honor of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The renaming coincided with the official opening of the new Terminal A, which became operational on November 1, marking a significant milestone in the airport’s history.

The rehabilitation of the North Runway is not just a standalone project but part of a broader initiative to position Zayed International Airport as a leading hub in global aviation. The Building Better Airports campaign emphasizes sustainability, innovation, and enhanced passenger experiences, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to maintaining world-class infrastructure. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce delays and improve the overall efficiency of airport operations, benefiting both airlines and passengers.

Moreover, the airport’s newly inaugurated Terminal A represents a leap forward in passenger comfort and service quality. The terminal is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced security systems, spacious lounges, and a wide range of retail and dining options. This upgrade is designed to handle the growing number of passengers passing through Abu Dhabi, ensuring a seamless travel experience from check-in to boarding.

The introduction of a storage facility for transit travelers is a thoughtful addition to Zayed International Airport’s offerings. This service caters to the needs of long-haul passengers who have layovers in Abu Dhabi, providing them with the freedom to explore the city without the burden of their luggage. This facility not only enhances passenger convenience but also encourages tourism, allowing travelers to experience the rich culture and attractions of the UAE during their stopovers.
