First Syrian Airlines Flight Lands in Saudi Arabia After a Decade
Syrian Airlines has resumed flights to Saudi Arabia after over 10 years, marking a significant milestone in the renewed relations between the two nations. The first flight landed at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, signaling a new chapter in air travel between Syria and Saudi Arabia.
For the first time in over a decade, a Syrian Airlines flight landed at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, marking the resumption of regular flights between Syria and Saudi Arabia. This momentous occasion was celebrated by the Riyadh Airports Company and attended by Syrian Ambassador Ayman Soussan and various Saudi air transport officials.
Ambassador Soussan highlighted the significance of this event, emphasizing that it offers great convenience for both Syrians and Saudis by eliminating the need for indirect travel routes. He noted that the return of regular flights is a positive development in the evolving relationship between the two countries.
The flight, which arrived on 10 July at Riyadh, carried 170 passengers from Syria. It marks the beginning of a weekly round-trip service between Riyadh and Damascus. This resumption follows the recent arrival of a flight carrying pilgrims from Damascus to Jeddah, the gateway to Makkah, after a hiatus of more than 12 years.
Suleiman Khalil, Director of the Media Office at the Syrian Ministry of Transport, mentioned the possibility of expanding Syrian Airlines’ destinations in Saudi Arabia to include Jeddah and Dammam, depending on market demand.
