Glasgow and Aberdeen Airport Security Staff Secure New Pay Deal
Glasgow and Aberdeen airport security staff have accepted a new pay deal, potentially boosting wages by up to 12.8%, and ending the threat of strike action.
Around 300 security staff at Glasgow and Aberdeen airports have voted to accept a new pay offer that could see their wages increase by up to 12.8%. The deal includes a basic pay rise of 5%, a one-off payment of £500, and a 75p per hour enhancement to the shift allowance, which together account for approximately 5.9% of the overall increase.
The new agreement also introduces double time shift rates for Christmas and New Year’s Day, making the total pay package potentially worth up to 12.8% for some employees. Previously, ICTS Central Search workers had rejected a basic pay increase of 4% backdated to January and the same £500 one-off payment.
Following negotiations with Unite, ICTS will advertise a minimum of 15 full-time positions, initially offering them to existing part-time staff.
Pat McIlvogue, Unite’s lead industrial officer for aviation in Scotland, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, noting, “We are pleased that the company came to its senses and got back round the table to make an improved offer which was acceptable to our members. The possibility of strike action at the airports is now over.”
ICTS Central Search employs about 220 workers at Glasgow Airport and approximately 100 workers at Aberdeen Airport. These employees handle passenger security searches, mobile patrols, access control posts, screening deliveries, and emergency services. The union had raised concerns about understaffing and the denial of contractual breaks, citing increasing reports of fatigue, exhaustion, and stress among staff due to working beyond six hours without a break.
