Cathay Pacific has announced a significant investment in its future, not only by ordering Airbus A330-900neos but also by committing to a full renovation of its flagship lounge, The Wing, at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). This update, expected to be completed by 2026, aims to align The Wing with the contemporary design standards already seen in The Pier, Cathay Pacific’s other main lounge at HKG.

The Wing currently enjoys a prime location near the central security checkpoint, making it a convenient choice for travelers. However, its decor has become outdated, especially when compared to The Pier’s refreshed aesthetic. The upcoming renovation is expected to bring The Wing up to par with, or even surpass, The Pier’s design, setting a new standard for the airline’s lounges.

Cathay Pacific’s lounges, particularly The Pier’s First and Business Class sections, are already considered among the best in the world. The planned upgrades to The Wing, including the possible retention of The Cabanas—renowned as some of the best shower suites in any airport—will further enhance the passenger experience.

However, with the lounge set to temporarily close during renovations, there are concerns about how Cathay Pacific will manage the increased demand on its remaining lounges during peak hours. Despite these challenges, the anticipation for the updated Wing lounge is high, promising to strengthen Cathay Pacific’s reputation as a leader in premium airport lounges.
