flydubai has expanded its European footprint by launching direct flights to Basel, Switzerland. The Dubai-based airline now offers four-times-weekly flights to EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (BSL), marking its 29th European destination. This latest addition to its network builds on existing routes to cities like Budapest, Krakow, Milan-Bergamo, and Prague.

In July 2024, flydubai announced significant fleet expansion plans, including the addition of seven new aircraft and the hiring of over 130 pilots by the end of the year. These developments will support the airline’s growing network, which will soon include new destinations like Riga, Tallinn, and Vilnius. flydubai also made headlines with its order of 30 Boeing 787-9s, its first venture into wide-body aircraft.

The airline’s European expansion isn’t its only area of growth. Recently, flydubai introduced new routes to Iran, with services to Kish Island and Kerman launching in September, as well as several summer destinations in the Mediterranean, including Mykonos, Santorini, and Dubrovnik.

flydubai’s recent fleet expansion is a key component of its broader growth strategy. By acquiring seven new aircraft and hiring over 130 additional pilots, the airline is gearing up to meet increased demand across its expanding network. These fleet enhancements will not only support the introduction of new European destinations like Basel but also allow the carrier to maintain its high service standards while reaching more passengers.

In a groundbreaking move, flydubai has entered the wide-body market with an order for 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, marking a significant shift in its operational capabilities. These aircraft will enable the airline to offer longer-haul flights, expanding its reach beyond the current network. The addition of the Boeing 787-9s demonstrates flydubai’s commitment to modernizing its fleet and providing passengers with more comfortable, efficient travel options.

flydubai’s network expansion isn’t limited to Europe. The airline is also focusing on new markets in the Middle East and beyond. With the launch of services to Kish Island and Kerman in Iran, flydubai continues to broaden its regional presence. These routes, along with the addition of popular summer destinations like Santorini and Mykonos, underscore the airline’s strategy to diversify its offerings and cater to a wide range of travelers.
