Saudi Arabia and the Maldives have taken a major step toward enhancing aviation safety and security by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on seaports and seaplanes. The agreement was formalized during a high-profile visit by Captain Mohamed Ameed, the Maldivian Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, to the Red Sea region.

The MoU, established between Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority, sets a framework for cooperative efforts to improve safety and security regulations for water aerodromes and seaplanes. This collaboration aims to align with international standards and best practices.

The signing took place under the auspices of Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, and Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, President of GACA, within the broader context of the Red Sea project—a flagship initiative spearheaded by the Red Sea Development Company to establish sustainable, world-class tourism destinations. A key element of this project is the Red Sea International Airport, envisioned as a premier gateway for luxury tourism, positioning Saudi Arabia as a global leader in innovation and sustainable development.

The visit concluded with both nations reaffirming their commitment to reducing the environmental impact of aviation through advanced regulatory frameworks and enhanced international collaboration.
