Dubai Airport to Hit Record 93 Million Passengers in 2024
Dubai International Airport is on track to welcome a record 93 million passengers by the end of 2024, thanks to strong growth in air travel and advanced technology.
Dubai International Airport (DXB) is on track to hit an all-time high of 93 million passengers by the end of 2024, surpassing previous estimates of 91.8 million. The revised forecast reflects a 7% increase in traffic compared to last year’s 87 million passengers.
Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, announced the optimistic outlook during the Future Hospitality Summit in Dubai. He attributed the growth to Dubai’s strategic positioning as a global travel hub and the strong post-pandemic rebound in aviation, driven largely by “revenge travel”—the surge in tourism following COVID-19 lockdowns.
Dubai International reported 44.9 million passengers in the first half of 2024, marking an 8% year-on-year rise. The airport is currently connected to 262 destinations across 104 countries via 102 international airlines.
Griffiths emphasized the importance of technology and AI in streamlining airport processes to handle the increased traffic. Advanced AI systems monitor every detail of aircraft operations to ensure efficiency and improve turnaround times.
Dubai Airports has also been prioritizing local talent, with 78% of the management team now comprised of Emiratis, many of whom are women. Griffiths lauded the workforce’s efficiency, noting that the team has shrunk from 5,500 employees in 2007 to just 1,800 today, even as passenger numbers have tripled.
