CycloTech, an Austrian aviation company, is pushing the boundaries of electric flight with its innovative propulsion technology. The company is constructing a demonstrator version of its eVTOL, named BlackBird, to showcase its advanced CycloRotor propulsion system. This aircraft is expected to be unveiled by the end of the year, with test flights slated for early 2025.

The unique CycloRotors, designed for 360-degree thrust vectoring, allow precise control of direction and strength, making them ideal for flying cars. BlackBird will be equipped with six CycloRotors to enable vertical take-off, parallel parking, and mid-air deceleration, promising a smooth ride even in challenging conditions. The vehicle’s compact design measures 16 feet in length and has a maximum take-off weight of 750 pounds, with an expected top speed of 75 mph.

CycloTech’s experience includes 800 test flights with earlier prototypes and significant funding of $21.8 million secured earlier this year. While specifics on interior space and battery range remain undisclosed, the BlackBird could resemble the CruiseUp concept, with two seats and a range of approximately 62 miles. CycloTech’s development adds to the competitive field of companies racing to bring flying cars to market.
