UrbanLink Expands Fleet with 40 Eco-Friendly Hybrid Cargo Drones
UrbanLink Air Mobility is acquiring 40 hybrid-electric Orca drones, expanding its eco-friendly fleet for relief operations and cargo transport in Miami and Puerto Rico.
Florida-based UrbanLink Air Mobility has entered into a strategic partnership to acquire 40 Orca hybrid-electric cargo drones. Designed by Traverse Aero, these drones feature a 600-mile range and can carry up to 550 pounds of cargo, utilizing a combination of battery power and sustainable aviation fuel.
UrbanLink plans to deploy the Orca drones for relief operations in Miami and Puerto Rico, supporting emergency responders and government agencies in rescue missions and delivering vital supplies. The company also envisions the drones handling extra baggage and cargo for passengers on its eVTOL vehicles and electric sea vessels.
According to UrbanLink’s founder and chairman, Ed Wegel, this move underscores the company’s commitment to environmentally friendly, high-value transportation solutions spanning air, sea, and ground.
UrbanLink is rapidly advancing its infrastructure with partnerships like Ferrovial Vertiports to develop takeoff and landing sites for its fleet of electric aerial vehicles (EAVs). Earlier this year, the company announced a purchase of 20 eVTOL jets from Lilium and operates an innovative fleet that includes Eviaton Alice electric aircraft and electric sea vessels from Regent Craft and Artemis Technologies.
The emerging market for advanced air mobility is heating up, with companies like Joby Aviation and UrbanLink racing to shape the future of eco-friendly, efficient transport solutions.
