Archer Aviation to Supply 100 Electric Air Taxis to Japan
Archer Aviation partners with Soracle to sell 100 electric air taxis, bringing eco-friendly air travel to Japanese cities and addressing urban congestion.
Archer Aviation has entered into a groundbreaking agreement with Soracle, a joint venture between Japan Airlines and Sumitomo, to deliver up to 100 Midnight electric aircraft. The deal, valued at approximately $500 million, marks a significant step in advancing urban air mobility.
Soracle aims to address traffic congestion and geographic challenges by launching electric air taxi services in key Japanese cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Hokkaido, Setouchi, and Okinawa.
The eVTOL Midnight boasts a top speed of 150 mph and operates at a cruising altitude with noise levels 100 times quieter than a helicopter. Designed for efficiency, it can carry four passengers with luggage over 20-50-mile trips, requiring minimal charging between flights.
The companies plan to showcase the service at the 2025 World Expo in Osaka through a public demonstration flight, highlighting Japan’s innovative approach to transportation.
“This partnership reflects Japan’s commitment to pioneering advanced air mobility solutions,” said Andrew Cummins, Archer’s Senior Director of Business Development.
