SriLankan Airlines Gears Up for Revival
SriLankan Airlines launches a five-year plan to boost operational efficiency, financial stability, and expand its fleet with three new aircraft.
SriLankan Airlines has announced a bold new five-year corporate strategy focused on operational efficiency, financial stability, and enhancing customer satisfaction. The updated plan marks a pivotal shift for the state-owned carrier, which recently shelved plans for privatization.
Chairman Sarath Ganegoda revealed the airline’s intention to add three new aircraft to its fleet, bringing the total to the 27 planes required for optimal operations. Currently, SriLankan Airlines operates 22 aircraft, including a mix of Airbus A320s, A321s, and A330s.
Ganegoda, appointed as chairman in October 2024, is leading the carrier’s transformation after the government decided to refresh its board. The move follows the cancellation of privatisation efforts earlier in the year, citing a lack of suitable bidders.
As part of the new strategy, SriLankan Airlines aims to position itself as a competitive player in the aviation industry while strengthening its operational and financial foundations.
