Boeing has entered into a strategic partnership with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to foster the development of a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) ecosystem in India. This collaboration aims to expand SAF production within the country, assist in the certification of domestically produced SAF, and advocate for policies that will bolster the growth of the SAF industry.

India, with its abundant ethanol supplies and access to feedstocks like non-edible industrial oils, holds significant potential to become a major SAF producer, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This presents a promising future for the aviation industry as it works towards reducing carbon emissions and transitioning to greener fuel alternatives.

In line with this vision, HPCL is working to commercialize SAF, leveraging its advanced research at the HP Green R&D Centre. The center has pioneered a technology that converts used cooking oil into SAF, an innovation poised to contribute significantly to India’s sustainable energy goals.
