Singapore’s immigration authority reports a remarkable surge in travel activity in 2024, with over 230 million travelers processed through its checkpoints, marking a 20% increase from 2023 and surpassing the pre-pandemic numbers of 2019. The increase was mainly driven by a rise in land crossings, which made up 75% of the total travel volume. On December 20, 2024, more than 562,000 travelers crossed through the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints in a single day, setting a new record.

Additionally, ICA introduced new passport-free and automated clearance systems to speed up immigration processing. Singapore is now the first country to achieve automated clearance for all travelers, reducing average clearance times by 60%.

Despite the rise in travel volume, cargo traffic saw a decline, down 5.8% from 2023. ICA also reported a sharp increase in the number of foreign visitors denied entry, rising by 16% to 33,100 in 2024, largely due to security and immigration risks.
