India’s defense aviation capabilities are set for a major leap forward with the upcoming production of the C-295 military aircraft entirely within the country. Under the ambitious “Make in India” initiative, the first C-295 is scheduled for delivery by September 2026, with the final aircraft set to be handed over in August 2031.

The C-295 program will be a key driver for India’s self-reliance in defense manufacturing, featuring a remarkable 75% indigenous content. This high degree of localization is expected to significantly boost India’s industrial base, create job opportunities, and help develop a robust supply chain for the aerospace sector.

The aircraft will be assembled in India at a new manufacturing facility in Gujarat, being developed by Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), Airbus’s Indian partner for this project. In addition to assembly, key components such as avionics, landing gear, and other critical systems will be manufactured domestically. This collaboration will foster the growth of Indian aerospace companies, enabling them to gain expertise in high-tech military aircraft production.

This milestone reflects India’s long-term strategy for a self-sufficient defense sector and marks a critical step toward building advanced defense aircraft locally. The C-295 program will serve as a foundation for India to expand its aerospace capabilities and move towards producing larger, more sophisticated military aircraft.
