Lufthansa & Munich Airport Roll Out AI Robots for Airport Services
Munich Airport debuts AI-powered robots in Terminal 2, enhancing traveler support and digital engagement through an innovative collaboration with Lufthansa Innovation Hub.

Munich Airport has launched two autonomous, AI-powered robots in Terminal 2, aiming to transform passenger interaction and streamline airport services. Developed by Ottonomy and introduced under the Lufthansa Group’s venture arm Startup Gate, these smart robots are designed to operate independently, assisting travelers and promoting Lufthansa Airlines’ digital services.
Equipped with interactive features, the robots allow passengers to scan a QR code using their phones, which directs them to Lufthansa’s chat assistant. Through this channel, travelers can access flight information, manage rebookings, or request refunds. In addition, the robots provide useful information about key airport services such as lost and found, tax refunds, and terminal navigation.
The initiative stems from a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Munich Airport and Lufthansa Innovation Hub (LIH), focused on driving innovation across three core areas: resolving aviation industry pain points, piloting cutting-edge startup technologies, and promoting knowledge exchange.
Matthias Langbehn, Managing Director of Terminal 2 Company, expressed confidence in the collaboration, noting that forward-thinking partnerships like this are essential for delivering a superior travel experience. As Europe’s first five-star terminal, Terminal 2 continues to set new standards in innovation and customer satisfaction.
