Dubai International Airport (DXB) is set to revolutionize the security screening process with the introduction of new, cutting-edge technology aimed at making the passenger experience faster and more efficient. The Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP) agency has awarded a contract to Smiths Detection for the deployment of advanced checkpoint scanners across all three terminals at DXB, enhancing security and improving passenger convenience.

The new HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX Model-S computed tomography (CT) scanners use high-resolution 3D imaging to provide in-depth views of carry-on luggage, eliminating the need for passengers to remove electronics or liquids from their bags. This technology, certified by global organizations such as the US TSA and the European ECAC, will expedite security checks and reduce waiting times for travellers.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, a key figure in Dubai’s aviation sector, praised the initiative, emphasizing Dubai’s continued leadership in aviation innovation and commitment to improving the travel experience. He stated that these upgrades not only enhance safety but also reinforce Dubai’s reputation as a major global aviation hub.

In addition to high-resolution imaging, the new security systems come with features like intelligent lane management and automated tray return systems, which aim to streamline the process even further. These upgrades are part of a broader strategy by Dubai Airports to transform the airport into a highly efficient, smart facility, especially as passenger numbers continue to rise.

As one of the world’s busiest airports for international travel, DXB faces constant pressure to meet the demands of millions of passengers. With future growth plans in place, including a transition to the $35 billion mega-hub at Al Maktoum International Airport by the end of the decade, Dubai is heavily investing in cutting-edge technologies to ensure smooth and secure travel for years to come.
