In a significant step toward modernizing its fleet, the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) has welcomed the third C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft at Bangabandhu Air Base in Dhaka. The aircraft, acquired from the United Kingdom under a Government-to-Government agreement, landed after a successful ferry flight operated by BAF aircrew.

Led by Group Captain Md Ahsanur Rahman, the flight made stopovers in Cairo, Egypt, and Muscat, Oman before arriving in Dhaka. The reception ceremony followed traditional Air Force protocol, attended by high-ranking officials including Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat and British High Commissioner Robert Chatterton Dickson.

The acquisition is part of a broader initiative spearheaded by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to enhance the capabilities of the Bangladesh Air Force. The BAF aims to induct a total of five C-130J aircraft from the UK in phases, supported by agreements with the Royal Air Force and Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group.

Equipped with advanced avionics and modern systems, the C-130J will serve multiple roles including personnel and cargo transport, disaster relief missions, and UN peacekeeping operations. According to officials, the addition of this aircraft will significantly boost the operational and strategic reach of the Air Force.

Senior officials from Air Headquarters, as well as commanders from BAF Base Bangabandhu and BAF Base Bashar, were present at the ceremony.
